FILM FINDER

[FINCA] Spot

The International Environmental Film Festival (FINCA), a cinematographic event held by Instituto Multimedia DerHumALC, will celebrate its 4th edition from May 30 to June 6, 2018, in ten venues in the City of Buenos Aires and a secondary venue in La Plata.

FINCA arises with the need to broaden cultural perspectives from a socially engaged approach towards environmental issues, exploring multiple and original points of view, therefore promoting a critical cinema that can contribute to social transformation.

Under the motto “Let's stir the water”, this film festival seeks to expose major violations to the right to water by involving environmental movements as well as victims and experts, with a strong determination to contribute to the creation of collective construction spaces as a sustainable alternative to hegemonic economic models.

We've received over 300 entries from all around the world, and we will be screening 70 films, shot in different formats and representing different genres, from 25 countries. The official competition is divided into three categories: International Feature Films Official Competition; International Short Films Official Competition and Latin-American Documentary Films Official Competition. Additionally, there're themed sections: We Are Water, FICDH - Human Rights, Climate Justice, Energy Horizons, Mother Earth, Econscience, and Food Sovereignty.

The 4th edition of FINCA will feature a selection of titles from Cinema Planeta, the environmental film festival of Mexico, as well as award-winning titles and guests from FINCALI, the international environmental film festival of Cali (Colombia). The program will also include the sections Window to GFN Award and Window to Films 4 Transparency, an anti-corruption international film festival created by Transparency International.

FINCA will hold several Special Activities, including panel discussions, art and photography exhibits, a market featuring social associations and eco-sustainable products, and events for the whole family.

In addition, the organizations Movies that Matter and Instituto Multimedia DerHumALC will hold the Cinema Without Borders workshop in Latin America during the week of the FINCA for the first time ever. Through the workshop, participants will acquire practical knowledge regarding the organization of socially engaged film festivals and events, which will foster the development of their own activities and help integrate them into a worldwide network of human rights film festivals.

The team behind FINCA invites you all to be a part of this year's edition and enjoy the wide range of titles and activities available.

Come and stir the water!
