IMD
First prize of AR$ 5000 to “La victoria de Úrsula” by Nacho Ruipérez and Julio Martí (Spain 2011) for their excellent cinematographic work in every area. Since it is a fiction piece, the film captures the viewer’s attention right away and builds up great narrative tension by adding mysterious elements that culminate in a convincing and unexpected way. Their take on the subject of sexual diversity is extremely effective, thanks to the fiction element. Úrsula, the leading girl, is a symbol for the new generations by having views that are free from prejudice and full of love and justice.
Honorable mention to “Al otro lado” by Sofía Quiros (Spain 2010) for the clear way in which they brought to light the perverse relation between two important problems. Through the voices of the people that are going through this, they presented the problem of housing shorting, and the solution that actually brings another big and sometimes irreversible problem: the contamination of the environment. Their ideas are strongly supported with the testimonies, the articulate images and the precise words of the inhabitants that cannot help but look the other way, since the other way is there, creeping into their bodies, their water and their land, and is calling for a solution immediately.
