The International Environmental Film Festival (FINCA) had a successful 3rd edition. Summary of a vibrant week

16 de AGOSTO, 2016

IMD
Reflecting upon the 3rd edition of the International Environmental Film Festival (FINCA) one month after it was held, we would like to thank all volunteers, audience members, participants, filmmamkers, institutions, sponsors and media who contributed in one way or another to the success of the 2016 Festival.

Throughout an entire week (1-8 June) in the City of Buenos Aires and subvenues Moreno, Morón, Avellaneda, Lanús and Córdoba, 56 films from 24 countries were screened, including 10 from Latin America, 7 from Europe and 7 from the rest of the world, many of them as national and/or world premieres. FINCA also featured 19 international and 6 local guests. Nearly 10,000 people came to see our films in our more than 10 venues. In addition to our 35 staff members, 88 volunteers displayed amazing commitment, supporting the Festival´s many activities.

This third edition also placed particular emphasis on the issue of food sovereignty, included not only as a section but also as a central theme of all main activities. FINCA was honored with the presence of two international guests who are authoritative voices in the subject: Indian philosopher and author Vandana Shiva, Alternative Nobel Prize laureate, and French journalist and documentary filmmaker Marie-Monique Robin, who directed the film “The World According to Monsanto”.

Inclusive screenings were added to open our programme to everyone, including persons with visual and/or hearing disabilities.

This edition also featured the Schools Section devoted to schools and social organizations that have joined us for every edition of the International Human Rights Film Festival (FICDH). This was the first time FINCA included this section, which will definitely become a permanent feature in further editions of the Festival. Over 700 children and teenagers came to the screenings and took part in our activities.

Under the slogan “Art and part of the change”, through our films and our wide range of special activities (photo exhibitions, debates, workshops and a sustainable products market), we managed to broaden cultural perspectives from a socially committed approach to environmental matters from multiple, innovative points of view, thus promoting a critical type of cinema contributing to social change.
