[FINCA]

5th International Environmental Film Festival - FINCA 2020

For an entire week and through our website finca.imd.org.ar, in alliance with the platform Octubre TV, 76 films were screened, including feature films, short films, medium-length films and documentaries from 31 countries, many of them national and international premieres. We had the honor of receiving, in our virtual room, guests, environmental activists, and audiovisual producers who shared this meeting through the Special Activities over the course of the Festival.

IMD

In this first online edition of [FINCA] we were faced with the challenge of offering the Festival's contents both to the public that accompanied us each year in our previous editions, and to new audiences that joined us to experience the Festival's activities through different digital platforms and everyday applications. This year, the human encounter that usually characterizes the Festival was made possible through a virtual room that hosted meetings, workshops, conversations and interviews with prominent figures, guests and directors engaging in dialogue with the public.

Under the motto "Advocating for a New Climate", the Festival adopted as its main focus the climate crisis, a topic that calls on the cultural field, as well as society as a whole, to take urgent action. In 2019, the United Nations Environment Program stated that unless global greenhouse gas emissions fall by 7.6% each year between 2020 and 2030, the world will not reach the goal of limiting global warming to 1.5° C above pre-industrial levels established in the Paris Agreement.

On this topic, we had the honor of holding discussions with filmmakers and directors, as well as prominent international guests who were present at the special activities: Vandana Shiva, special guest of the "Advocating for a New Climate" talk, along with journalist Soledad Barruti (author of Malcomidos, 2013) and eco-feminist philosopher Alicia Puleo.

In terms of dissemination, we were featured in over 30 media outlets, including Página/12, Télam, Infobae, Haciendo Cine, and Perfil. We also had the support of social organizations, grassroots media, specialized bloggers, digital magazines and social media influencers who also joined in sharing information about [FINCA].

Challenges for Indigenous Cinema in Times of Western Civilization Crisis
What is the place of indigenous cinema within the circuits of film production and exhibition at the regional and international level? In this conversation, we explored indigenous cinema initiatives along with filmmakers who put forward a circular narrative, characterized by a vision of inter/eco-dependence between the beings which inhabit the Earth.

SCHOOLS SECTION

IMD

Knowing the transformative power of cinema, we aim at spreading thought-provoking content that not only raises awareness among young people, their families, educators and social environment, but also encourages the sharing of knowledge and practices that give hope to this generation. In the second part of the year we will continue with the campaign "Let's Activate Environmental Education through Cinema" which will integrate, on the one hand, cycles of itinerant cinema tailored to the needs of local leaders and, on the other, (audiovisual and art) training workshops aimed at young people and adults.
