Synopsis
In 1981, Ecuador was shaken by the sudden death of President Jaime Roldós and his wife, Martha Bucaram, in an inexplicable plane crash. Described as a “generous, goodhearted president” by Gabriel García Márquez, Roldós aimed for the democratic leadership of a continent subdued by brutal military dictatorships.
