Pome fruit production, which is hundreds of years old, is nowadays threatened. A new and more profitable activity is growing in the Valley: gas exploitation under tight sand fields, which is extracted through fracking. Thanks to government support, fracking towers are taking over land from small farms, which are rented by economically deprived manufacturers.
